Evergreen Hospital Medical Center plans open new ED in Redmond

Evergreen Hospital Medical Center announced plans today to open a Redmond Emergency Department (ED). Hospital leaders and physicians say the new ED will give area residents improved access to round-the-clock health care.

The emergency department will be part of a new Evergreen medical facility being built in the Bella Bottega shopping center in downtown Redmond. The plans include a comprehensive lab and advanced diagnostic imaging. It will also merge Evergreen's two Redmond-based primary care practices – Evergreen Medical Group Redmond and Family Medicine of Redmond.

The $15 million project is slated to break ground in May and open in 2011.

"We have a responsibility to provide the highest standard of health care to the rapidly growing Eastside communities," said Al De Young, the Evergreen Board of Commissioners chair. "Enhancing medical services is a major part of our commitment to offer exceptional care, close to home."

The three-level, 48,000 square-foot facility will be located near the corner of Northeast 90th Street and Redmond-Woodinville Road. The complex will include 16 emergency rooms and 36 primary care exam rooms. The developer and site owner is Gary Merlino Construction and the general contractor is Sellen Construction. Both are local companies.

When it opens, the ED staff will include 75 staff including board-certified emergency medicine physicians, trauma-trained nurses, social workers and support staff. More than 50 employees will staff the primary care center.

Patients at the new ED will receive the same high-quality care they receive at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. Should any patient require hospitalization, established protocols will ensure seamless coordination of care and transportation to the hospital.

"We've been a community partner and health care provider for the past 38 years," De Young said. "The most important thing is to continue providing exceptional care to the community."
