PhotoMedex introduces DNA Damage Control sunscreens

PhotoMedex, Inc. (Nasdaq: PHMD) a leading supplier of advanced, clinical skincare and medical laser products, today introduced DNA Damage Control, the breakthrough treatment sunscreens that feature advanced photoprotection with DNA repair technology.

Formulated by and marketed under the company’s NEOVA® brand, the DNA Damage Control sunscreens offer an unrivaled repair and protect system that defends against photodamage insults with a new and powerful therapy: boosting the body's natural DNA repair process.  The patent-pending formulas use liposomes to deliver DNA repair enzymes to the cellular level of the skin, hyper-targeting the site of the DNA injury.

In clinical studies, DNA repair enzymes were shown to reduce DNA damage by 45% and increase UV protection by 300% – in just one hour.

"Photodamage occurs every day, even on cloudy days, and damage to our skin is cumulative. Even if you don't see a sunburn, sun exposure can lead to wrinkles, pigmentation changes and more serious consequences including skin cancer," said Melanie Grossman, MD, New York-based dermatologist. "The NEOVA sunscreens offer broadband photoprotection and deliver both antioxidants and DNA repair enzymes which combine for advanced sun protection."

Drawing upon more than 20 years DNA-based research by leading molecular biologists, the DNA Damage Control sunscreens feature two patented DNA repair enzymes – photolysomes and endosomes.  These liposome-encapsulated enzymes work with potent antioxidants to defend cells and accelerate the body's ability to repair solar DNA damage. The elegant formulas feature both physical and chemical barriers for thorough broad-spectrum UV protection.
