The parents of Susanne Schroff, Gunther and Ingrid Schroff, created the Schroff Foundation out of their private fortune in 1984. Their declared aim was to exploit entrepreneurial success for socially important scientific causes and in the interests of society.
In 2010 Susanne Schroff established her own foundation, the SANNI FOUNDATION. The aims of the foundation are the upbringing and education of children and young people, the alleviation of poverty, the promotion of health, and the encouragement of women, mainly in emerging countries.
The Schroff family has traditionally supported St. John's institutions in Trivandrum, State of Kerala, in Southern India. Since 2001, Susanne Schroff has visited St. John's regularly, and has confirmed on each visit that the funds received are used meaningfully.
Meanwhile, sponsors are supporting more than one hundred children with €240 each a year. The full amount is transferred to India. The children live in three different homes.
The AIDS problem is becoming more and more significant in the region, and an AIDS clinic was financed in 2008 by the Schroff Foundation, securing not only support for acute patients but also for their families, especially the children.
To help offer an education to HIV/AIDS affected children, the SANNI Foundation committed in 2011 to finance an education centre, situated 25 kilometres north of Trivandrum. Parallel to obligatory school lessons, the young people, who are aged between 12 and 18, will receive instruction in practical matters and trades, such as IT or embroidery/dressmaking.
In 2011, the SANNI Foundation started raising funds to build a diabetes clinic with 50 beds on the St. John's Campus in Trivandrum to improve the local medical services. A modern diagnostic centre with X-ray, ECG and ophthalmic wards and physiotherapy for the local populace are planned. Various treatment and consultation rooms for patients with diabetes mellitus and diabetic secondary diseases will also be built, as well as toilets and a cafeteria.
The above two projects, EDUCATION CENTRE and DIABETES CLINIC are the Commitment of the SANNI-Foundation at the Clinton Global Inititiative in 2011.
