Joerns RecoverCare introduces unique mattress coverlet system to support wound care

Joerns RecoverCare has launched ClimateCare™; a unique mattress coverlet system that provides microclimate management. When used in conjunction with a pressure redistribution mattress, ClimateCare is designed to address the root causes of tissue breakdown through the management of temperature and moisture (microclimate) at the interface between the patient's skin and the therapy support surface. ClimateCare is an affordable option for adding microclimate management to therapy support surfaces lacking an active microclimate control.

"Microclimate management is recognized as a key factor in optimizing the skin's condition and avoiding the damaging effects of increased moisture and temperature on the skin," notes Julia Melendez, RN, BSN, JD, CWOCN, National Clinical Director, Joerns RecoverCare. "ClimateCare is designed to pull excess moisture and heat away from the patient's skin to effectively manage the skin microclimate and protect it from breakdown."

The system features best-in-class moisture vapor transfer from a system that is easy to use and is comprised of both reusable and disposable components to reduce infection control risk. ClimateCare is available in 36", 42" and 48" widths (91.4, 106.7 and 121.9 cm). It provides a simple, easy-to-use design with no settings required.

The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) recognizes the importance of removing excess moisture and heat from the skin to mitigate pressure ulcer risk factors. ClimateCare provides a moisture vapor transfer (MVT) rate of 130 g/m2/hr, about 40% greater than standard Low Air Loss mattresses.

ClimateCare is compatible with many therapeutic support surfaces, including the Joerns RecoverCare Dolphin® Fluid Immersion Simulation® (FIS) System and the P.R.O. Matt® Plus.
