LCA commends Congress for establishing life-saving initiative on lung cancer

Today, Laurie Fenton Ambrose, President & CEO of Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) hailed the establishment of the first bi-partisan Lung Cancer Caucus in the United States House of Representatives and thanked Congressman Rick Nolan (D-MN), Congressman Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ) and Congresswoman Lois Capps (D-CA) for leading this effort.

"This is a great day for our community," said Fenton Ambrose. "Now we have a long sought opportunity to bring higher profile visibility to lung cancer issues where policy decisions are made. Thank you Congressman Nolan, Congressman LoBiondo and Congresswoman Capps for taking on this important and life-saving initiative. We look forward to supporting this effort in the days ahead."

The Lung Cancer Caucus will provide valuable information to Congress on a variety of lung cancer topics including eliminating stigma, the state of lung cancer research, screening and treatments to improve survivorship and its impact on women, minority communities and military men and women.

"We are proud to stand together in taking this important step toward improving understanding of lung cancer and eradicating the stigma that surrounds it," the Co-Chairs said. "Lung cancer is a terrible disease that has affected so many families. This caucus will aid our colleagues and the American public in their understanding of the issues surrounding those who are living with and those who are at risk for lung cancer."

The first briefing in the series will be held in September and focus on stigma entitled: "Stigma: Hindering Progress and Empathy for Lung Cancer and Those Impacted".
