Engineering and healthcare technologies company Renishaw will be returning to the 3D Medical Expo taking place at MEEC Maastricht, in the Netherlands, between January 31 and February 1, 2017. Renishaw will preview the Additive-manufacture for Design-led Efficient Patient Treatment (ADEPT) software set to launch later this year. ADEPT is a software tool for designing patient specific implants (PSIs) used in craniomaxillofacial surgery.
ADEPT is an efficient and user-friendly software package that 3D reconstructive scientists, technicians and surgeons can use to design implants for highly complex surgical interventions.
To complement ADEPT, Renishaw will also be showing its 3D printed PSIs, known as LaserImplantsTM, which when coupled with ADEPT helps to simplify the use of bespoke implants.
Amy Davey, a Reconstructive Scientist at the North Bristol Health Trust will join Renishaw’s additive manufacturing (AM) experts at the 3D Medical Expo. Davey will share first-hand experience of the software and help visitors understand the benefits ADEPT offers to healthcare experts.
The ADEPT software is the result of a collaborative project between four UK partners: Renishaw, LPW Technology Ltd, the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, a leader in the application of computer-aided technologies (CAT) in maxillofacial surgery and academic partner PDR located within Cardiff Metropolitan University. Last year, the project won the Health and Wellbeing category in the UK’s Collaborate to Innovate Awards.
“ADEPT streamlines the design and manufacture of bespoke implants,” explained Ed Littlewood, Marketing Manager of Renishaw's Medical Dental Products Division. “It is the latest in a long line of developments that Renishaw has facilitated for the medical and dental sectors.
Last year, the company also opened a Healthcare Centre of Excellence in Miskin, South Wales. This is a unique facility where the firm manufactures class 3 custom medical devices using Renishaw’s own metal additive manufacturing systems.
“Renishaw is keen to collaborate with more European hospitals and implant manufacturers and 3D Medical Expo is a perfect place to connect with medical professionals from across the continent. As an end-to-end solutions provider, Renishaw is a reliable partner for the additive manufacturing of medical implants, as well as a supplier of metal AM machines and specialised software.”
3D Medical Expo is a dedicated business and research platform that aims to bring together European and global companies from the 3D medical supply chain, as well as customers, end-users, developers and researchers. The event comprises a two-day exhibition and four conferences: 3D BioPrinting, 3D Dental Printing, 3D MedTech Printing and 3D Medicine Printing.
