It's challenging and also very important to get across the message of the danger that fungal infections pose.  On the other hand, there are FAR more fungi that are essential to our survival on this planet than those causing human, animal, or plant diseases.

With the Fungal Kingdom being the second largest kingdom of life (many times larger than the Plant Kingdom), awareness of the importance of fungi - positive and negative - is highly relevant, and David Perlin and team do an amazing job to highlight the major concern that fungal infections can cause and to research measures to overcome infections.

The majority of fungi, however, are essential to life on Earth - for nutrient recycling (decomposition of dead material), for plant and animal nutrition (mycorrhizas, animal and human food), and a myriad of other beneficial interactions with other organisms (e.g. lichens).  As with animals and plants, there are threatened fungi too; conservation is equally relevant to all 3 kingdoms.

So let's become much more aware of infective fungi as well as the larger part of the Fungal Kingdom that are valuable members of the Earth's biodiversity.  Just as some animals are dangerous, so are some fungi.  Fungi (along with plants, animals, and micro-organisms) are key to life on Earth, but within each Kingdom there are a minority of species that can kill us or severely injure.
