    Of course there are more efficient ways of delivering healthcare with on huge caveat. Surveys over the last 20 years show the average prevalence of physician burnout is 1 in 3 doctors on any given office day ... regardless of specialty. In the vast majority of healthcare organizations additional responsibilities are being heaped on the front line providers (EMR is the best example) with NO REGARD to the health of the provider.

    Whenever an IT guru suggests what they feel are "improvements" in patient care ... I shudder for a simple reason. They do not take into account the stress levels and work loads of the people actually seeing the patients.

    So in designing this workplace of the future ... it is vitally important to have a physician on the design team and to take into account all the things the docs and nurses are already doing ... and create a bandwidth neutral solution. Do Not ask the healthcare providers to simply do more or you could be the straw that drives a wave of turnover in your medical staff.
