    It's amazing to me how infectious the omicron variant is even when you compare it to previous waves. In a lot of rural areas in the US over half of the total case count are from omicron, and that's not counting at home test.  In hindsight, I think the initial media panic early in 2020 might have caused people to get tired of the constant coverage and percieve that things were getting better when, in reality, their chance of catching it had drastically increased.
