Even though I’m recovering well from prostate cancer surgery, and I’m currently 33-months in NED, if there were one thing I could do differently, that would be to join a support group as soon as I was diagnosed. Even before doing research and especially before making a decision. I didn’t realize at the time that I was in shock from just hearing the word “cancer,” and that’s not a good time to make a treatment decision. Even though my results have been very positive, they could have been very negative. In that case, I would have regretted surgery and kicked myself for not doing my homework. I encourage all men to give themselves enough time to recover from the initial shock of diagnosis and to fully consider all of the available treatment options for their particular case before making a decision.
