However, animals in undjuvanted vaccine or as03 adjuvanted vaccine both lost weight (implying systemic toxicity) and developed fever. This did not happen in the cpg 1018 adjuvanted animals.
A scientist reviewing a publication, even for a blog/media article, must evaluate the figures and not just the conclusions from the authors. The data in question is in the supplementary figures (Fig S9). In addition, I think a comment on Fig 5 in the main paper would be useful as reporting the average weight or temperature change of all animals is entirely irrelevant as the real data here is what percentage of the animals showed signs of toxicity (90% to 100% in the as03 or unadjuvanted arms and 0% in the cpg 1018 adjuvanted arms).
