    I fail to understand this. The graph suggests 500 deaths in Sweden which is now over 8,000 in December which doesn't compute . Whereas Norway's graph  is about 200, now 480 in December, which seems about right.

      I read the link to the actual paper which was easier to read.  Still it seems to be misleading for a study about COVID..  The research compares the time period from July 2019 to July 2020 to previous 12 month periods July to July.  The pandemic did not begin for the world until mid March 2019.  They will need to compare from April 2019 to April 2020 to other previous 12 month periods for a better representation of a pandemic year compared to others.

        The pandemic started gradual so there will never be a right timeframe to count a pandemic year. You can count July to July or April to April, it would not matter. It is just important that one is consistent, and they are.
