The SDI Programmable Animal Shocker system randomizes the delivery of shocks to prevent animals from detecting a pattern. This multi-functional, solid-state unit features eight unique outputs to deliver scrambled shocks. These outputs are intended to be connected to a grid floor with multiple rods.
Shock triggers and levels can be set manually or programmatically using ANY-maze. For the first time in this type of system, the system allows users to see the actual shock delivered to the animal.

Features
- Adjust shock delivery and levels through software or manually
- Displays the current levels being administered in real-time
- Offers both programmable and manual adjustment modes in a single unit
Description
Deliver shocks manually or via software
The shock delivery can be triggered either manually via the shock initiate switch on the front panel or programmatically using a 5 V TTL signal. The trigger lines for the shock and the shock level lines are independent, allowing flexibility in control. The TTL signal enables compatibility with virtually any digital I/O card to trigger the shock.
Set shock amplitude manually or via software
In manual mode, the shock amplitude is adjusted using the Current Adjust knob on the front panel, while in programmable mode, it is set via the Programmed Input plug at the rear of the Programmable Animal Shocker. A single byte (8 bits) is sent to configure the shock level, with each bit representing a 5 V TTL signal, allowing for use with most digital I/O cards. The front panel display remains active during adjustments to the shock levels.
Display actual shock levels
The SDI Programmable Animal Shocker system includes a feedback loop that monitors the actual shock level being administered, displayed for real-time verification. The actual shock level may vary from the initial setting due to factors like the animal's resistance, which damp or dry paws can influence. This feedback allows users to verify that the animal is receiving the intended shock level.
Use a computer interface
The SDI Programmable Animal Shocker has connections for shock trigger and level adjustments. However, the user must provide the necessary PC interface card and software to activate these features.
