A local businesswoman has been nominated for the Outstanding Contribution to Breast Cancer Campaign 2010 Award after raising more than £15,000 for the charity through her passion for dolls houses and miniatures.
Celia Thomas, a professional miniaturist who trades as KT Miniatures, has been the driving force behind one of the leading events of its kind in the country, the annual Thame Dolls House and Miniatures Fair, which takes place every February at Thame Leisure Centre. Celia has a passion for creating miniatures and after a career in nursery nursing set up her own miniatures business, combining the industry that she loves with raising money for charity.
Celia said, "I am extremely proud to be have been nominated for the charity's Outstanding Contribution to Breast Cancer Campaign Award. However I must thank the whole team of volunteers who have helped annually and so magnificently, plus the local businesses and people within the miniatures industry, all who have undoubtedly contributed to the success of Thame's unique charity event. Breast cancer touches so many families and sadly my own family too, having lost both my mother and grandmother to the disease so I feel strongly about supporting the charity which funds life-changing research and raises awareness about breast cancer."
Pamela Goldberg, Breast Cancer Campaign's Chief Executive said, "Our awards ceremony publicly recognises the amazing achievements and contributions by our fundraisers and supporters over the last 12 months towards Breast Cancer Campaign's research. Their support is essential to helping us achieve our mission of beating the disease and I wish Celia, and everyone else who has been nominated the best of luck."
