On Wednesday, June 1, the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University will launch AIDSVu (www.AIDSVu.org), an interactive online map that, 30 years into the epidemic, provides for the most detailed publicly available view of the impact of HIV across the United States by state and county. AIDSVu also provides state-level estimates of the proportion of late HIV diagnoses and zip code-level HIV prevalence data for New York City and Washington, DC - two U.S. cities hit hard by HIV/AIDS. The detailed data on AIDSVu pinpoint areas of the country where HIV prevalence rates are the highest, and where the needs for prevention, testing and treatment services are the most urgent.
AIDSVu data were obtained from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) national HIV surveillance database and were compiled by researchers at Emory University. AIDSVu will be updated on an ongoing basis in conjunction with CDC's annual release of HIV surveillance data as well as with new data and additional information as they become available.
