PENTAX Medical, a leading provider of endo-imaging solutions, celebrates the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Asahi Optical Joint Stock Co., the original manufacturer of PENTAX-branded products. Through its successful MILES FOR HEALTH™ - 100 Years of PENTAX campaign, PENTAX Medical has raised $125,000 for World Cancer Research Fund, reflecting the company’s historical and ongoing commitment to help improve the awareness, detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
Staff, partners and customers of PENTAX Medical all took part in pledging their “MILES FOR HEALTH”, from distances of one mile to a marathon and via any method of self-propulsion, including walking, running and cycling. In addition to a $100,000 donation to commemorate its achievement of 100 years since its origin, PENTAX Medical added a further $1 for every mile traveled. This was then rounded up to take the total amount for World Cancer Research Fund to $125,000. At the United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW) in Barcelona, Spain, 19-23 October, attendees took part in an organized fun run and joined in using an on-booth running machine, with all proceeds going to the MILES FOR HEALTH campaign.
On 12th November 2019, Gerald W. Bottero, Global President, PENTAX Medical was accompanied by representatives from all regional leadership teams to present a cheque for $100,000 to Dr. Shoichiro Tsugane from World Cancer Research Fund at the global headquarters of PENTAX Medical in Tokyo, Japan.
Our MILES FOR HEALTH campaign has been a huge success. Not only have we, as a company, raised a large sum of money for a truly worthwhile cause, but we have worked alongside the campaign to raise awareness of the vital need for cancer research - a value at the core of PENTAX Medical’s rich history and future outlook.

The final organized MILES FOR HEALTH run took place on 27th November in the UK, and was accompanied by anniversary celebrations at PENTAX Medical offices across the globe – from Germany to Singapore. Following this, submissions were closed and the grand total calculated ready for a final ceremony at World Cancer Research Fund headquarters in London, UK on 28th November 2019.
World Cancer Research Fund’s CEO, Rachael Gormley said:
