Apps Genius launches Bed Bug Alert app for Apple iPhones

With bedbug infestations on the rise, Apps Genius (www.appsgenius.com), the developer and publisher of social games and software applications, recently launched the Bed Bug Alert app for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch.  The Bed Bug Alert app is currently available for $1.99 from the Apple Store.

Featured by The New York Times and USA Today, Apps Genius' Bed Bug Alert app provides the public with easy-to-access updates on bedbug infestations in their area based on the users' geographic location or via maps of bedbug infestations in ten major U.S. cities.  Users can also contribute to the Bed Bug Alert's database of infestations, providing new bedbug locations for other users to avoid.

Apps Genius is continuously monitoring news outlets and other sources of bedbug infestations, and updating the app with new addresses where sightings have occurred.  In addition to using geolocation, users can also manually search any location via Google Maps or by manually entering an address.   All reports are color-coded to highlight how recently they were added and user submissions are reviewed regularly.  Reports tagged as inaccurate will be promptly removed.

In addition, the Bed Bug Alert app offers users the ability to search for bedbugs at specific locations, such as hotels, restaurants, and movie theaters, and learn more about bedbugs in general.

"Given the growing concern about bedbugs and a true necessity to know where there have been problems, we created this app to arm the public with the most current information about infestations in order to help control the spread of these critters.  I wouldn't check into a hotel without first using Bed Bug Alert, and neither should you," said Adam Kotkin, CEO of Apps Genius.
