An Adelaide man, Stuart McDonald, 43, has been accused of deliberately infecting his sexual partners with HIV. He has been found guilty of two counts of endangering life.
He was accused of infecting eight men with the virus in 2005. All eight men tested positive for HIV after having receptive anal sex with McDonald. Four of these victims were trapped by McDonald via the Gaydar website, three at an Adelaide beat, Veale Gardens, and one at a gay boarding house in the city. Some of these men were led to believed that McDonald was using a condom, which they realized he was not or had taken it off during sex.
The trial was heard by the South Australian Supreme Court. After over four hours of deliberation, the jury found him guilty of two charges, but acquitted him of the other counts. He was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing submissions next year. He will appear in the court again in January.
