Enabling physicians to perform a range of interventional procedures, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc.'s InfinixTM DP-i X-ray system provides clinicians with the ability to transition between cardiac and peripheral work seamlessly. Demonstrating these capabilities at this year's New Cardiovascular Horizons (NCVH) conference, Toshiba's Infinix DP-i will be used in 12 interventional live cases. NCVH is a leading peripheral intervention conference focusing on peripheral artery disease (PAD) with a special emphasis on critical limb ischemia (CLI), taking place June 1-4, 2011 in New Orleans. The live cases using Toshiba's Infinix DP-i include the following:
Six live cases focused on the treatment of limb ischemia will be performed by Dr. Craig Walker, Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC)/Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS), Houma, La., and Dr. Frank Bunch at Springhill Medical Center, Mobile, Ala.
- Three leading physicians from TGMC/CIS will also perform five live cases focused on carotids and closure, and venous disease.
- One live case performed by Dr. Kalyan Veerina, CIS medical director, will take place during the "Masters and Legends in Cardiovascular Medicine" session.
Dr. Craig Walker, founder and conference chairman, will be performing three live cases with Toshiba's Infinix DP-i from Cardiovascular Institute of the South, where he works as the medical director. The live cases, focusing on critical limb ischemia, will showcase the system's ability to meet the needs of physicians during peripheral intervention. The Infinix DP-i's unique dual C-arm system allows one lab to perform like two. One C-arm is designed for cardiac work, while the other is optimized for peripheral work outside the heart, such as carotids, renals and legs. Additionally, the design of the system enables clinicians to seamlessly transition between cardiac and peripheral work during a single procedure. The three other limb ischemia live cases will be performed by Dr. Frank Bunch at Springhill Medical Center, Mobile, Ala.
Five additional live cases will be performed at TGMC/CIS on carotids and closure and venous disease. These live cases will be performed by Dr. Peter Fail, director of cardiac catheterization laboratories and interventional research, and cardiologists Dr. Raghotham Patlola and Dr. Richard Abben.
"Toshiba's Infinix DP-i is a shared cardiac and vascular cath lab that enables physicians to perform interventional procedures for conditions associated with both cardiovascular disease and peripheral vascular disease, including limb ischemia," said Stephen Bumb, director, X-ray Vascular Business Unit, Toshiba. "The superior contrast, dynamic resolution and patient access from both sides of the table allow for better visualization, evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic limb ischemia."
