HRSA announces $5.1M in awards as part of Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program

Awards will expand technical assistance and further develop HIV workforce

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) today announced awards of $5.1 million to provide training and technical assistance (TA) as part of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, which provides HIV-related services in the United States for those who do not have sufficient health care coverage or financial resources for coping with HIV disease.

These funds will support AIDS Education and Training Centers (AETC) by providing HIV clinical consultation services, expand HIV training into graduate medical education, pilot an HIV telehealth training initiative, and provide national TA in the areas of fiscal management, data, AIDS Drug Assistance Programs, medical home certification, and online TA resources for the Ryan White community.

"Initiatives like these build on a long history of providing top-notch training and technical assistance to Ryan White grantees," said HRSA Administrator Mary Wakefield, Ph.D., R.N. "These investments expand access to state-of-the-art care and ensure treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS."

Awards include:

  • AIDS Education and Training Center Program ($1.7M – 1 award). Enhances the capability of the HIV workforce through the National Clinicians Consultation Center, which will provide distance based clinical consultation on HIV through a warm line, perinatal hotline and referral network, and occupational post-exposure prophylaxis hotline.
  • Expanding HIV Training into Graduate Medical Education Program ($450,000 – 3 awards). Supports developmental work to expand an existing accredited primary care residency program to include an HIV focus, and community-based ambulatory patient care centers to expand training opportunities for medical residents in HIV/AIDS care and treatment.
  • AETC Telehealth Training Center Awards ($599,924 – 3 awards). Expands access to and improves healthcare and health outcomes through telehealth technology for hard-to-reach, HIV-positive persons in medical care residing in historically underserved communities.
  • National Technical Assistance Cooperative Agreements ($2.4M – 5 awards). Assists grantees in the areas of fiscal management, data, AIDS Drug Assistance Programs, medical home certification, and online/self-help TA resources.
