Bone Morphogenetic Protein 4 (BMP4) is a growth factor belonging to the TGF-beta superfamily. It plays a crucial role in various developmental processes, including neurogenesis, vascular development, angiogenesis, and osteogenesis.
BMP4 initiates the canonical BMP signaling cascade by binding to type I receptor BMPR1A and type II receptor BMPR2. Additionally, BMP4 works in concert with PTHLH/PTHRP to stimulate ductal outgrowth during embryonic mammary development and inhibit hair follicle induction.
